How to Discover Your Mission in Life

Leave this world a better place than when you got here”.

As Monique Valcour states in her article published by the Harvard Business Review, “the most important thing you can do each day is to help your team members experience progress at meaningful work”. One of the core ways to discover your meaningful work is by creating a mission statement. Whether it is a company mission statement or a life mission statement, it’s so very important to have that purpose and direction in your life.

Valcour explains further, “regular communication around development — having coaching conversations — is essential. In fact, according to recent research, the single most important managerial competency that separates highly effective managers from average ones is coaching”. And I ask, how can you expect to be an exceptional coach without a clear vision of where your team is headed?

Chapter 9 of The Prosperous Leader focuses on finding your mission.

Frankl developed a philosophy called Logo therapy, in which an individual can detect his or her unique meaning or mission in life by examining his or her personal vision and values to ensure that they’re based on principles and reality. Frankl says that in order to know where we are heading, we need to reexamine the center of our lives. Our center is the source of our security, guidance, wisdom, and power. By centering our lives on correct principles, on fundamental and classic truths, we create a stable foundation and can then embrace and encompass the truly important areas of our lives.
